Movies August 24And so we enter the dregs of the summer blockbuster season, where few (if any) notable releases hit theaters, and the ones that are remaining are picking up scraps of audiences tuckered out my invading aliens, dark knights and expendable action stars. Will any new release make an impact this weekend? Not likely, but here’s a few that will try.

Hit & Run is an action comedy chase flick starring Dax Sheppard, Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper and Tom Arnold, all of whom (with the exception of Cooper, who is in a supporting role) can’t open a film. Bell is getting there, but she’s really a draw for romantic comedies. Look for this one to open outside then top five with $5 million.

Find out what else is out this weekend after the jump!

Premium Rush stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a bike courier who is chased through New York City by a crooked cop who wants a package the courier is set to deliver. As much as I like Gordon-Levitt, who I believe is about to break out big time in Hollywood with Looper, there is no buzz for Premium Rush and I think it really won’t make much noise this weekend. Look for a fourth place finish with $8 million.

Also out this weekend is The Apparition, with Ashley Greene, Sebastien Stan and Tom Felton in the story of a couple that accidently conjurs a ghostly presence in during a parapsychology experiment. The cast is full of young, good actors that could appeal to teenagers who can find this flick, but with minmal awareness and marketing it’s unlikely. Look for yet another debut outside the top five with $3 million.

As for the rest of the top five, The Expendables 2 should hold on to the top spot for another weekend with $13 million. The Bourne Legacy will pull up in second place with $10 million. ParaNorman should hit the third spot with $9 million, while The Dark Knight Rises should close things out in fifth with $7.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Expendables 2 – $13 million
2) The Bourne Legacy – $10 million
3) ParaNorman – $9 million
4) Premium Rush – $8 million
5) The Dark Knight Rises – $7.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
